ADS-TEC Energy, the Nürtingen, Germany-based maker of battery-buffered fast-charging systems and battery storage listed on Nasdaq as ADSE, reported first-half 2026 results in a Form 6-K filed September 30, 2026. Sales of its chargers fell sharply. In its management's discussion and analysis for the six months ended June 30, the company says charging revenue "decreased by EUR 7.4 million, or approximately 76%, to EUR 2.4 million," with the decline driven primarily by "weaker momentum in the electric vehicle market." The same document discloses substantial doubt about the company's ability to continue as a going concern.
The Half-Year in Figures
Total revenue for the half was €7.4 million, compared with €14.6 million in the first half of 2025. The MD&A puts the drop at €7.3 million, or about 50%, and says it came mainly from the charging segment, which covers deliveries of the ChargeBox and ChargePost. Service revenue was €4.5 million, broadly stable with the prior year, and made up about 61.8% of total revenue. Revenue from the company's own charging sites was €0.1 million, its first from that business.
Operating loss narrowed while net loss widened. The company's results release attributes the larger net loss primarily to non-cash fair-value remeasurements of warrant liabilities.
| Item (half year to June 30) | H1 2026 | H1 2025 |
|---|---|---|
| Total revenue | €7.4M | €14.6M |
| Charging revenue | €2.4M | €9.8M |
| Service revenue | €4.5M | €4.6M |
| Operating loss | €26.3M | €30.0M |
| Net loss | €42.0M | €14.8M |
| Net cash used in operations | €18.7M | €30.2M |
The company says it expects charging revenue to increase in the second half of 2026. Its order backlog stood at €20.3 million on June 30, with commercial and industrial battery storage a key contributor, and order intake in that storage business reached €5.9 million in the third quarter.
Cash, Debt and the Going-Concern Disclosure
Cash and cash equivalents were €4.6 million at June 30, down from €7.0 million at December 31, 2025. Current loans and borrowings rose to €15.9 million from €5.0 million over the same period, and the company received €10.2 million in shareholder loans during the half. Total warrant liabilities fell to €11.4 million from €54.8 million at year-end, following warrant exercises, cancellations and remeasurements.
Shareholder credit lines totaled €56.4 million at June 30, of which €41.1 million was undrawn. Management's business plan assumes additional drawings of €30.0 million under those facilities and forecasts that the company will remain cash positive for the twelve months after the interim statements were issued. The MD&A then adds: "recurring losses, negative operating cash flows and uncertainty regarding forecast execution and the availability of additional financing continue to raise substantial doubt about the Company's ability to continue as a going concern."
From Selling Chargers to Running Sites
Under its Own & Operate model, ADS-TEC Energy acts as a charge point operator at selected locations across Germany. The release says 17 such sites are in operation and that the company has secured more than 100 sites. It reports 170% growth in energy throughput across that installed base from January to August 2026 and a reduction in direct energy procurement costs of up to 54%. The company says it is in discussions with infrastructure investors on asset-backed, project-level financing for the build-out. The MD&A notes that, because of limited funding, the model's expansion has progressed more slowly than originally planned.
Chief executive Thomas Speidel said in the release: "While the market has seen a shakeout over the past two years, ADS-TEC Energy has used this period to invest in its future."
On hardware, the release says the insolvency of a battery supplier temporarily constrained production of the ChargePost, the company's battery-buffered charger. The company is preparing next-generation charging hardware with higher charging power, a larger battery and lower cost, which it plans to introduce in early summer 2027.
Outside charging, the company lists SKM, a 1 GW / 4 GWh storage project in southern Germany, and is seeking an equity investor to acquire up to 51% of it. The MD&A also says the company plans to "intensify sales in Europe and the United States" and to expand its full-service model.
Context
The release sets the results against an EV market it describes as picking up after a period of caution: battery-electric vehicles reached a 21.7% share of EU registrations through August 2026, and German battery-electric registrations were up 53% year on year, per figures it cites from the European Automobile Manufacturers' Association. The company's North American revenue fell 58% to €0.3 million as it prioritized its strategic transition over near-term sales in the region.
What It Means for Drivers
- Where the company's own chargers are: The 17 Own & Operate sites are in Germany. The "more than 100 sites" are secured locations, not stations open to drivers; treat them as future sites until the operator lists them as running.
- New hardware timing: The higher-power, larger-battery charger is a planned product for early summer 2027, not equipment drivers will find at sites before then.
- North American drivers: The plan to "intensify sales in Europe and the United States" covers sales and the full-service model, not announced US sites. Because the company's own sites are in Germany, a US charger using ADS-TEC hardware is run by another operator, so that operator's app and the AFDC station locator show whether it is open.
- Going-concern disclosure: It concerns the company's financing. The release describes the operating German sites as showing encouraging performance in system availability.
